Facing pain is hard, Darren. It’s also a very brave thing to do and the only way to move toward healing. We’re praying you find healing and hope on the other side of that healing.

Glad to hear journaling helps! There is something powerful about actually writing stuff down that brings us clarity and helps us resolve that pattern of distorted thinking.

When we dig into it, often it is this thought about not being enough that is at the core of our distorted thoughts and therefore bad behavior.

You’re right – the spiral is exhausting. It’s not fun. Sometimes we don’t even know how exhausting and terrible it is for us (not to mention others) until we’re out of it and get to experience what that’s like. Keep up the good work!

Yep. Our past is where our buttons come from. As you said, these are mostly not our fault for having them there, but it is our job to disconnect them. No one else can and we’re the ones that benefit the most when we do. Great work.

It is a big list, but everything on it is pretty common. Good job reflecting on your buttons. Next up is to find the thoughts that will make these buttons smaller, less powerful, and more managemble for you.

Sure! It’s hard to do time-outs perfectly in the moment, so give yourself grace, make adjustments, and keep trying!

Right Darren043 – unless we get to the deeper stuff that is at the source, we’re unlikely to experience lasting change. We can’t control what others do or how they’ll react, but usually being vulnerable and humble for a change is well-received by our loved ones. Even if it is not, we can be honest with ourselves and still make important changes. Again, most of the time, it’s these changes that others notice. Good work!

Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t see ourselves or the damage we’re doing clearly until we encounter a major brick wall like you’re experiencing. But, you’re on the right track now, Darren043! Keep going!
